Lourdes 150th anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes. Since the first healing, of Catherine Latapie on March 1st 1858, thousands of unexplained healings have been recorded but only 67 have been classed has miraculous.
Six million people come to Lourdes every year, this year Lourdes is expecting a staggering 8 million because of the 150 anniversary of the apparitions that occurred here 1858:
- A place where Christians can express their faith and eternal love to God
- A place where the sick and people with disabilities have priority and find access to facilities easily
- A place of prayer, and unity between people and God
- A place where young and old can share together devotion and spiritual growth
- At Lourdes one experience, God the father of love, gives and forgives, weather worthy or not. Prayers should be about praise, gratitude, trust and joy suffering, serenity, solitude health and illness just like the Lourdes Prayer.
The story started in 1858 when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in February. Since That Blessed day, the number of pilgrims have increased each year, with a large number of people returning
The story here in Lourdes never stops and each day, pilgrims come here witness and write new events, Miraculous or spiritual. The Jubilee celebrations will last for a full 12 months. It began on the 8th December 2007, the feast of the Immaculate Conception and will continue until 8th December 2008.
When visiting you are encouraged to make changes to your interior life. The Virgin Mary adds "Pray to God for sinners" this is a wonderful message to remember when you make pilgrim to Lourdes or in everyday life.
Pope Benedict XVI message in Lourdes
Pope Benedict XVI in Lourdes, started his pilgrimage on the 12th of September and celebrates the Jubilee along with over 200,000 pilgrims over a 3 day period. Pope Benedict XVI remembered and prayed for countless numbers of people were are victims of poverty and terrorism, he announced and granted the Plenary Indulgence to the pilgrims who visited Lourdes or those who are Venerated (if you have a crucifix at home out of personal devotion, you kiss it, then you have been venerated).
